My dog has scaly, itchy skin and I use a special dog shampoo. It's for dry, sensitive skin and it works wonders. It's cheap too. Just go to your local Wal-Mart.

Use an oatmeal based shampoo. What you are using may be drying or irritating the dog's skin Don't just use a "sensitive skin shampoo" read the ingredients. You can get it from your vet or they have them at Petsmart/Petco. I forget the name of it. Discount stores don't have it.

Also pay attention to diet. Make sure your dog is getting enough Omega-3's. You can supplement with fishoil or flax capsules. But only 1000 mg a day. That will make a big impact on the overall health and coat of the dog.

Also check the dog food you are feeding. Some dog foods are just like "dog cereal". but there are some really good ones with human grade ingredients. Consider researching that or even get your food online if not available near you.
