#1) Quality dog food - work on this from the inside out; something with fish oil and omega 3 & 6 fatty acids. I suggest Canidae or Wellness.

#2) Do NOT bathe frequently - when you do, use a DOG shampoo formulated for sensitive skin, for example oatmeal or tea tree oil shampoo - human shampoos (even baby shampoos) are too harsh; they do not have the right pH and can actually strip the skin.

#3) Frequent brushing will remove the flakes and distribute skin oils.

#4) There are products like Dreamcoat or Vitacoat that can be added to the dog's diet, or drizzle a tablespoon of olive oil over the dry kibble, daily.

#5) Check with your vet as the scales could be sign of mange, you would want to rule that out as well.

Olive Oil in the food 3 times a week. Just a tablespoon. My dog LOVES it. On the days that I do not put the oil in his food, He will look at me as if to say "did you forget something?"

First thing I'd look at is the feed too.

Start with avoiding corn (only a filler, no food value) Second, add some cold water fish and raw eggs with the shell (2-3 per week).

I have a bottle (250 caps) of Nature's Made Fish Oil (1000mg). I give my dog 1 each night for healthy coat.
