What shots does a 6 week old puppy need to have
A 6 week old puppy does NOT need any vaccinations. A 6 week old puppy should NOT have any vaccinations.
Vaccinating a puppy this young interfers with natural immunity. It also can supress the immune system leaving the puppy more suseptible to the very illnesses the vaccines were meant to prevent.
A puppy should not ever get any vaccinations before it has completed it's 7th week but preferably not before 8-9 weeks.
A puppy should only get the following vaccination:
distemper/parvo/canine hepatitis/adenovirus-2
At 12- 14 weeks this vaccination is repeated and then again at 16 - 18 weeks it is repeated for the third and final time. At 20 weeks or older the rabies is given.
Depending on the risk of exposure your puppy may need lepto and parainfluenza but not every puppy needs these.
NO puppy (or dog) should ever get coronavirus, adenoviru-1 or giardia vaccinations.
