What should I do about my moms dog

I gave my mom a dog for Christmas because it's what she wanted. It was not a surprise gift at all - she even picked out the puppy. She had dogs in the past. Her last one passed away from old age the preceeding Christmas. Here is my problem: my mom keeps putting off getting her fixed because she says she doesn't have any money, but she goes shopping and plays slot machines a lot. She also did not get medicine the vet prescribed for the dog, again, because she said she didn't have money. The dog needs to go to obedience classes very soon because she is a certain breed that is crazy and tears up the house.. I'm feeling responsible for this dog because I bought it. I don't live with my mom. I have threatened that I would take the dog if she didn't care for it properly. I have also given my mom money for the dog's booster shots (which my mom thankfully completed). Should I step in and take the dog for the dog's sake??

It sounds like your mom is at a stage in her life where a dog is not a priority. This happens, and the dog is lucky that you are there to save her.

There is no question in my mind that you need to take this dog back and do right by her.

If you think there will be any hard feelings with mom just tell her that this will be her "grand dog" and you will bring it by to visit.
