What should I do
I am going to get a dog from a shelter in a month. I love dogs and I am FINALLY allowed to get one after proving to my parents that I can care for one. There is a problem though. I am in the 11th grade right now and I'm getting the dog this summer (which is in a month). My parents do not want to take care of the dog when I leave to college (which is in a year and half) so they want to give it away then. I can't take it with me because pets aren't allowed in the dorms. I would be coming home every two weeks to visit but they do not want to take care of it. What should I do? I do not want to give it away.
Answers:I love that you want a dog from the shelter. That's very caring of you and I approve 100%. However, you need to realize that this is not a good time for you to get a dog. If it's going to be your dog, it will live for you and only for you. Think about how it will feel while you are away. It's hard, I know, when you want to help and you want to care for something. But put responsibility and love for your future companion first before your own desires.
Good luck.
In this situation, you have to think of the dog's needs, before your own..The dog NEEDS a forever home..You don't NEED a dog as badly as he needs a forever home..Love him enough, without even knowing him, to allow him to find the forever home that he deserves..
A better option would be to foster a dog (s)for the summer and the next school year...I will get you contacts to find a foster dog, if you live in USA
