What should i do with my pets2007-11-25 2:53:33

i have a german shephard guard dog and a chihuahua and only one yard. how can i stop the german shephard from eating the chihuahua if my yard is fenced in?

Keep the chihuahua in a crate in the house.

Keep the shepherd well fed.

He is going to know just by the smell that the chi is another dog, not a meal on the hoof.

Don't leave the chihuahua out with the German Shepherd unless someone is there to supervise. Not even for a minute. After they get used to each other they may get to be good friends but it is always best to supervise them.

Who says the Chihuahua won't eat the GSD? If your GSD is socialize (as the same with the Chihuahua) why can't they get along (maybe supervised for a real long time)? Never tie out or chain either dog , either one will become prey/predator. Chaining a dog is never a good idea. It changes their perspective.

well, i doubt it the shephard would eat it: reason being, there isnt enough meat in a ratty chi!

perhaps build a kennel for the chihuahua. or even slowly introduce them. very slowly

Just divide your yard with a gate. Make sure your German Shepard has more room and the he can't find a way to get through the fence. I don't think it should cost too much if your just dividing your yard. You could even just make a cubical for your chihuahua, but also big enough for him.
