What to do for a dog with fight wounds2007-11-25 2:53:14

My two male labs just got into a fight over food. The oldest now has a hole though his left ear that is bleeding pretty good/better now slowing down alot and a gash in his neck. What should I do for him? As far as cleaning it and such.

Answers:

There's a product called bleedstop but I am assuming you won't have any of that handy.

Puncture wounds and gashes can get septic quickly. Hair can get in the wounds and also contribute to infections. Gash may require stitches and even a drain.

I'd pack the wounds with triple antibiotic ointment (no peroxide - can drive the infection deeper) and call the vet!

Feed them separately in the future.

you should take him to vet. they could need to be stitched. as far as what you can do other than putting peroxide and neosporin on them nothing.
take him to the vet..
I think a vet appt. is in order. The "gash" may need some stitches. At the very least your vet will give you antibiotics to ward off infection.
Take him to a vet. He may need stitches, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to get both of your guys neutered. That will help with aggression problems or a simple solution to fighting over food is to separate them when they eat. If this is a new thing, neutering is your best bet to keep this from happening again.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

First of all, as the alpha, you should not have allowed your pack to fight about food. You should have been controlling the environment and protecting the targeted dog once the fight happened. That's your role as alpha. No one fights unless the Alpha ok's it.
