You can try chicken wire, it is a much smaller guage than kennel wire, to reinforce your kennels. You should also ask your vet about a recently developed vaccine designed for rattlesnake venom. It was developed in California about 2 years ago and recently made available to vets. It will protect your dog against snake bites and is safe enough to use on very small dogs.
I don't think it's a major crisis of a problem here where I live.
get a bigger dog, or use chicken wire, you know the stuff kids put on their Honda's
Try some moth balls around the perimeter of the kennel. Snakes hate the smell of moth balls.
You have to keep a perimiter around the kenell. Remember some rattlers are fat and heavy, so you have to reinforce it with a few layers, make it about knee-height.
