What to do with my new dog
I have a new 20 month old greyhound who has been in kennels up til now. I also have 3 other ex racing greyhounds who are all older.
Poppy (the new one) is beautiful but very mischevious and eats or chews everything. I understand that, coming from kennels she is now going through her 'puppy' stage and needs to do this. I dont have a problem with it and we all just have to remember to remove everything from her reach. The real problem is peeing. She has access to the garden all day as I am home and I make her pee last thing at night too. In the mornings, however, there is always a puddle by the back door.
I am quite pleased she is obviously trying to get out as she does it by the door but she cant seem to hold on, is there a way of training her to wait til someone gets down and opens the door for her. We never lie in til late as all the dogs need to go out.
Answers:i have a greyhound called poppy too & i got her from kennels! are you using bleach to mop up after??? if so the smell of ammonia is making her want to pee on the same spots nonBiological washing powder is best to use (so says my puppy socialisation class trainer) also make timing of when shes to go out ie every half hour for a while and reward her when she has went out to toilet. Hope this helps and best of luck with your new beauty xxxx

This site might help!
i think it will take a little time poppy is learning everything from scratch as she been in kennels dogs learn habbits very quickly as im sure u will no give her some time and enjoy x x x x x x
well after her last pee of the night take away her water and see if that helps (you may also want to shut the toilet seat so she doesn't drink from the toilet.) that may work
well at 1 yr and 8 months, she should be able to hold it in f properly trained. my dog can, she might have bladder problems
I crate my dogs when we get them. every night for about a month when I want to go to bed they go into their crate and get locked in. Dogs dont like to pee where they are going to be sleeping. I have a 7 month old puppy and she wont pee in the house, but there have been some accidents. Keeping her in a room might help also. Leting her run around at night might be the problem. Taking her water away isnt a mean thing to do, most dogs dont need it at night. If you dont want to take it away compeletly then give her a smaller amount.
You might want to crate her at night for a while.
First check she doesn't have a bladder infection.
Dogs in kennels don't learn to 'hold on' like house dogs do, they can go when they feel like it. At least she's trying! If she was clueless the puddle wouldn't be by the back door. I think she just needs more time to get the hang of holding on to it.
All you can do is try crating her at night because dogs don't like messing in their bed.; but if you do, make the night as short as you can. Take her out very last thing and get up early for a couple of weeks (you can always go back to bed after!) And remember to always praise her when she goes in the right place.
