What type of small dog is the best for a lap dog2007-11-25 2:53:44

What type of small dog (under 10 lb) is best for someone who wants a lap dog. I have a 20 lb doxie, but I would like to another small, long lived, dog I could take with me in a bag ( or at least sit on my lap). what do you think of toy poodles and chihuahuas? Any other dog breeds?

Don't worry... I hope to get my new dog at an animal shelter :)

i personally dont like poodles or chihuahuas. Cavalier king charles spaniels are great lap dogs...they love to be cuddled.

dont know if you will find many of them in a shelter though!!

I have had both a mini poodle that lived 17 years, and a mini fox terrier who is now 3. Both are great dogs.

I have 3 toy poodles, mom & 2 of her babies, so I'm partial to them. They don't shed, have doggy odor & remain small. Mine are 10" 8 lb female spayed, 8" 5 lb female spayed & 8" 4.10 lb male intact. I never thought I would like them, but after babysitting for one I was hooked. I got my oldest female as a rescue (she was gonna be used to bait fighting dogs) & after getting her papers, bred her once so I'd have more with her good health & temperament. They do need to be brushed & groomed on a regular basis.

For starters I personally do not like toy poodles or chihuahuas. They are very loyal to there owners but are know to be quite aggressive towards guest in your home. There are three dogs, well maybe four that I would recommend. It will honestly be hard to find in most of these dogs in shelters. 1. Yorkshire Terrier 2. Pomeranian 3 & 4 are the Papillon and runner up is the Pekingese. Good luck in your search.

chiuhuahu teacup .mY parents have the mini ones and one regular .Thats all they want to do.They are a little to small for me but when I am watching them I have to sit down because thats all they want .They also always want held.My mom got hers for around $350. No papers but they looked pure breed.I put them on the gallery on the pawspot website .you click onto gallery and than there is a photo contest for cancer cure and I put them in there there names are ceecee and chico.And they are doing the cudles in my lap.www.pawspot.com take a look.I think you will like those types.Also there is alot of dog info on that site.I forgot to add both dogs have been socialized and have done well with my kids and dogs .I have a medium size dog and a larger dog.
