What was I thinking2007-11-25 2:53:46

A 7 week old lab puppy can't be expected to hold it through the night. The whining it did initially probably didn't have anything to do with need to pee, therefore it didn't relate it's whining, to waking you up and being let out to pee. During the day teach it a behavior that would wake you up when it needs to pee. Would the sound of a bell wake you up?. Teach it to paw a bell...give a treat and take it out immediately, move the bell to the crate. Move the crate to your bedroom. Two of my dogs sleep on dog beds in my bedroom, one other perfers to sleep in living room apart from the rest of us. Never been a problem doing this.

Or...and this is what I did with my last puppy...set your alarm for 2AM, get up and take out your pup. I did this until it was about 4 - 5 months old, then it seemed to be able hold it longer during day time, and it was able to hold it at night from 11pm to 5am

Also, restrict fluid intake after 8PM

Also, do labs have to chew on everything they can put their mouths on? Everything but the toys I give her lol. Even the dang floor! OMG WHAT WAS I THINKING LOL!

Yes, to gnawing. Get tastier things to gnaw, real marrow bones, and Kongs filled with tasty treats.

Well, first of all, I bring pups home at 6/7 weeks old. It's the best age to train a pup for obedience. Most pups I know of are sold between 6 - 8 wks of age, so don't let anyone make you feel bad about *that* issue...because it isn't an issue.
