What works best for repelling ticks for dogs
I just moved last week and there are several acres of woods behind my house. Since then I have found 3 ticks on me and 4 on my dog. I hate the little bastards and dont want to have any of them on or around me or my dog. Any suggestions
Answers:My dogs have Frontline Plus applied to them EVERY month of the year. YES, even in the winter. My dogs have never had fleas or ticks because of the medicine. They also have heartworm medicine EVERY month of the year. They have never had worms of any kind because of this medication.
The heartworm medicine keeps all worms out, not just the heartworms.
As for yourself and ticks you need to purchase one of the repellants for humans. I swear those darn ticks drop out of the trees! I spray myself all the time and I don't get them on me any more either.
The cost for the dog is worth it in the long run..Use the meds and you don't have a lot of nasty problems to deal with.
NOTE: If you use the Frontline Plus year round it builds up in the dog's system to ward off the fleas and ticks. If you only use it for the summer months I don't think it is as effective.
This is an all natural remedy - feed your dog a clove of garlic. His breath might be yucky for a while but fleas and ticks won't go near him.
Give him a bath.Try Sergeants Skip-Flea and tick shampoo
Feeding a raw diet of raw meaty bones and organs from a variety of animals. What you put into your dog determines what comes after him. We feed raw food and fleas and ticks are not intersted in our dogs. They are fed species appropriate food. No grains, no fillers, no preservatives, no chemicals = no fleas and ticks on your dog.
Advantix. you put the wet drops on their neck once a month. Our dog has never had fleas because of it.
Feeding your dog too much garlic (a whole clove) is not good, it could cause serious problems. Garlic belongs to the same family as onion, which is a huge no-no. A tiny bit of garlic is ok, like, a tablespoon a week.
I've heard great things about Advantix and Frontline. Try and switch between the two every month though, as that seems much more effective that using one exclusively.
Front line is the best that I've found. We live on a 42 acre farm and my dog loves to go in the woods. Since using front line I have not found one flea or tick.
I use K9-Advantix, and I think it works great!
