What would be the best type of dog for my family and I2007-11-25 2:54:25

I am looking for a puppy. The only thing is I don't know what type of dog to get. I have been looking for the perfect dog for my family. We are fairly active. My kids are 2 and 1. And the place I live at doesn't allow dogs more than 30 lbs. Can you all suggest a good type of breed for us?

I imagine children that age take a lot of time and energy.

I personally suggest you hold off on getting any animal at this time in your life.

I do not think it is fair to the dog or the children if you get a dog.

I also do not think it is fair for a dog to be subjected to children that age. Wait until your children are older (7-8) so that THEY CAN BE TRAINED how to behave with a dog.

Enjoy your human children right now. They grow up so fast. There is a lot of time in your life to get a dog. Then it can be fun for the whole family and not a chore.

I highly recommend a Cairn Terrier ("Toto"). They are smart, great with kids, shed very little, normal weight is 12-14lbs, low maintainance grooming and very sweet. The BEST dog I've ever had.

A labradoodle i would recommend as they slightly malt but not a lot and they love children. Also you can get them in minature, standard or medium. I would recommend them as they are the best breed with children. Research them and you will see.

Try a Cocker Spaniel, they are small, smart, active and know for their friendliness with people, especially kids. I have one, it is 5 months old and haven't had a problem with it yet. In my oppinion, a Cocker is the best dog. The only bad thing with Cockers is that they have very sensitive ears, so be careful when it's around the kids cause they might accidently pull one of it's ears and hurt it. It can also grow deaf after years. But it's the best dog ever, i highly recomend it!

Awwww.. I was going to suggest golden retrievers because they're very family oriented.. but they grow to be way over 30 lbs.. :( They're the only breed i can come up with ..

Go to the local shelter and see if there are any dogs that have the tempurment that you are looking for. The shelter will also try to match you up with a good dog for your family. There are thousands of dogs waiting to find a good home. Good luck.

One breed that is becoming very popular with families is the "doodle" breeds; labradoodle, boxerdoodle, etc. Common breeds mixed with the french poodle, and walla, one well tempered, and fun breed.
