We are going to adopt a month old puppy. I want to make sure I'm a very good owner. What age do you start training the puppy? what are you spose to train it? What is the best food to feed it? I need help please.

First no one should allow you to have a 1 month old puppy!!!

feed it puppy chow and the sooner you start training it the better. you train it to do tricks. sit down, stay, lay down is all the ones that are helpful for the puppy to train if you have truble training it there is special places were they train you and your dog.

Sounds like you need a solid training manual.

there are good books at pet stores with week by week training tips. They tell you what to do when you bring them home, house training, feeding, bite control, positive reinforcement training etc.

You're going to get a bunch of different perspectives on here and what you need to do it stick to a particular method that works for you and your dog.

Most important of all, you should ideally not get the pup until at least 8 weeks of age. 1 month old is way too early...so if this is a MUST situation then you need to start puppy socialization proper care with help from a vet or adequate professional to make sure you start things off right.

Let me say this now. If you are adopting from the pound-- Please, please, please (I can't stress this enough) adopt a full-grown dog! Everybody that goes to the pound wants a puppy, so all puppies find homes, but very, very few people want a grown dog, because they assume it sick, mean, untrained, etc... A dog can become anything you want it to be! Sure, treating a sick dog can be expensive, but it develops a bond with them, and it will instill a sense of loyalty you can never get from a puppy!
