Whats a good dog for a 12 year old girl2007-11-25 2:54:31

I am thinking of getting my child a dog.but I need to know what is the perfect dog for her? I would like it small too, something she can pick up, and defently not agressive. Our westie only cuddles around me, and is not very friendly with the rest of the family.. Have any ideas?

Bichons are really good. My friend has a Bichon-poo (+ poodle) and she is the gentlest best dog i have ever seen! Pomeranions and chihauhuas are horrrible for children and jack russels are really hyper. Shitzus are ok too

Possibly a Chihuahua...but they are very needy dogs so prepare to give them a lot of attention and love...or a yorkie terrier...they are both small, cute, cuddly, and good to be around all sorts of people.

I think another dog in the house with your possessive westie could be trouble. Pretty soon, your 12 year old daughter will have a whole world of other things on her mind besides a dog, and you could be stuck with two that fight over your attention.

well i would recomend a beagle, carin terrior or a good old mutt that you know wont grow too big on you .. (plus you can adopt them!!) but if youd like you can go to www.akc.org and they have a complete list of akc registered dogs and their sizes, weight, temperment, how much care they need, and any other information that you might need. We just got a Shetland Sheepdog (Sheltie) puppy and she is a great dog. She is smart and very easily trained. They don't usually get much over 35 lbs., but do need regular grooming. This is our first Sheltie and we would get another one in a heartbeat.

Jack Russell.. their small, friendly, energetic, quite trainable and so darn cute.. a friend of mine has one, dog i had was yellow lab for 14 yrs.. wonderful dog for kids around.. very good.. but big, need to run..

a very good hardy and loving playful dog that loves everyone would be a min. schnauzer. great dogs!!! this would be your best bet!
