Whats a good way to move cross country with a dog2007-11-25 2:53:50

Yes I'm getting ready to move from MO to Az this summer with a moving truck and just want to know what I should be doing for my dog to make it an easy move for him. I know travling can be hard on animals and I just want to make it smooth as possiable for him.

Ok we did a Texas to Alabama move 5 years ago with 2 dogs. Here is what I did. I found a Ryder truck that was a van style front that had an access to the rear through the drivers cab. I put the dog kennel just inside the door of the access and packed around it, this kept me from having to tie it down. The dogs could sleep in the kennel but get the benefit of the AC as well as be close enough to get their ears scratched from time to time. I got a cheep travel bowl for water {low splash lid} kept the dogs close to me and gave them both a children's benadryl {vet advised} to help them sleep most of the trip. The day before I lightly fed them early AM and at night. I did not feed them at all on travel day till late in the afternoon. It was a 2 day trip and I didn't want to stop to walk them if not needed. They slept most of the way. Good luck!

i am going through the same thing...i am flying me and my dog from Pa to Co...so actually i would like to know some of these answers too! will you be riding in the truck or will you be taking a car too? because i know that my dogs like car rides but there is only so much they can take! i really dont have any advice for you but if you get something good could you forward it to me too? hahaha i know im real lame

I moved from Illinois to Bullhead City Az, last March with my 3 year old dog as my co pilot. I asked the vet for a mild sedative for the trip..It worked wonders, and no harm done
