well...if you are going away for a while, then its better to put them in a kennel where they take them out for exercise and play with other dogs as to being stuck inside a cage...

Dogs definately need to go outside wether you take them for a walk or keep them fenced in the backyard. You can even put them on a runner...but dont keep them inside all day...
