Whats going on w/my dog
why does he bark agressively @ the neighborhood dogs & people? he also runs & hides after he barks @ them. On Saturday, his vet told us it could be territorial agressiveness. but why then did he affectionately accept a stranger in2 our own home in the middle of the night last night? the guy spent the night on our couch & as soon as i woke up, my dog excitedly wanted to go out in2 the living rm to be petted by this stranger! the stranger's a local bartender/aquaintant downstairs from my job. needed a place to crash.

he is trying to protect his ground when he barks... but when he runs and hides just might be that he is shy or scared that what ever he is barking at will hurt him. We have a dog that barks and then runs when it trys to touch him, we got him from a shelter so that explained why he runs and hids he was scared of being hurt.. but the part of him letting the stranger in... not real sure about that 1, did he know him at all? It might have been because u weren't right there so he didn't feel the need to bark to protect you
is he neutered? neutering a male dog takes away lots of territorial problems. neutering a male dog or spaying a female is always healtiest for the dog.
Fear aggression, they bill bark and growl because they are afraid, that is why he hides after. Dogs have great instinct, they can normally tell when someone is cool and is not there to harm them, or you. It is the unknown that they are afraid of. If the neighborhood dogs and people are running around making noise or too far for the dog to pick up their sense, the dog is probably fearful of them.
And now that the dog is used to barking at them, even if they did come to your front door, the dog may still bark and hide, because that is what it is used to with that person.
