I've asked before about my neighbor's growling dog and came up with good solutions. Now I want to know what I can do in case he jumps over the fence and tries to attack me or my toddler son. Are there any techniques I can use to stop the attack? Would I have to injure the dog? I was attacked by an aggresive dog as a child, and when it happened my dad came over and kicked the dog in the head. It ended up being fatal for the dog. My dad felt bad but he explained to to the neighbors that his child's safety comes before the dog's. It was partly their fault for not keeping a German shepard away from children. While I appreciate my dad helping me, I would never want to hurt an animal. What is the best way to deal with a dog attack?

I would carry mase, have you talked to the people that own the dog, sounds dangerous. I know the worst thing you can do is run, it triggers the natural chase and kill instinct in the dog. also don't look the dog in the eye cause if you do he'll take it as a challenge

I have been in the same place as you. A big black dog used to hate me, and he was a little cuckoo in the head because his owners mistreated him. Nowadays when I go to the supermarket and the dogs bark at me and growl I stare them straight in the face. I beat down my fear because dogs can sense fear and will attack anything that is afraid of them... at least some dogs. I look them in the eyes and say: "Stop RIGHT NOW. I am not scared of you and I never will be, GOT IT?" they stop right away. This is happening not when the dog is charging at me, when he's just glaring at me and barking. DO NOT hit the dog that attacks you because you will be imprinted in his mind as an intruder and something to be attacked. Tell your neighbor to restrain his dog. If he doesn't call the ASPCA and get them to help. Or maybe even the police because this is physical violence, especially when there is a child involved.
