Whats the cheapest and most hassle-free way to have my dog taken care of while Im on vacation2007-11-25 2:54:37

I'm going on a trip in two weeks and will be gone for two weeks. I could ask one of my relatives, but they're 3 hours away and don't really want to drive there if I can avoid it. I might try asking co-workers, but I don't want to hassle people. I really don't want to use a boarding or kennel service, especially since we'll be gone for so long, and they'll end up charging an arm and a leg. Any good ideas?

Call around to different Vets that do boarding. I've boarded my dog in Texas and Oklahoma. The cost was $9-$13 dollars an day and some give a discount if you bring your own food for the dog.

I also request my dog be kept in a dog run because she is an active dog.

Having her kenneled assures me she is being well taken care of by experienced care takers and her vet.

My dog loves it.. She gets to see and bark with other dogs.

They also bath and groom her before we pick her up.(for a charge).

I have always found that if you want a simple job like pet-sitting done at a cheap rate, ask a responsible teenager. They are always looking for extra money and sometimes, even something to do that makes them feel important. Look in your neighborhood or ask around your work if anyone knows a teenager that could pet-sit for you. If you do hire a teenager, interview them like you would anyone for a job. Watch how they interact with your dog. Make it stressed to them how important it is and make it more like a job interview so that it benefits all three of you, you the owner, your pet, and the teenager. I know several teenagers in my area that would love an opportunity like this. Best of luck.

Try asking a best friend [[ that likes dogs]]. A NICE co-worker [[that likes dogs]] dont ask in a mean way, be polite. If not ask around your neighborhood. if not i would consider driving 3 hours.

A family member to stay and house sit and dog sit will be the cheapest ( only pay in beer and pizza.lol).
