Whats the deal with Boxers & Pit Bulls

I hear pretty frequently that Boxers are often used as "pit bull bait", or that people who train pit bulls to be aggressive get boxers to assist in their process somehow.

Does anyone have any idea about this? Why the boxers? etc...

I just keep reading random comments about that and I am just plain curious now!

I work at the dog pound and noticed alot of fighting pits only go after other pits and pay no attention to other breeds of dogs, they are use too fighting other dogs that look like themselves, of course I'm sure they'd fight any dog since they have been trained to fight.

So a boxer looks similar to a pit, it's about 40 to 60 pounds lean, and similar color, so thats one reason, but as a bait dog you want to encourage your pit bull to fight and win.

If you train a pit with another pit they both possess the extremely strong bite, and drive to win a fight.

A boxer normally has a very undershot jaw taking power away from it's bite, so if it fights another dog it's bite will have less power and do less damage.

Boxer are normally not dog aggressive by nature as well, so if someone is training a pit to be a winner it makes since to pit it against a dog who is afraid to fight back, most pits will fight back as they are strong willed dogs.

So if they are using boxers it for beginner pits, who need an easy target, and a boxer with it's less powerful bite will lose to a pit and the pit will feel as though the fight was worth winning.
