as a former long time breeder of the miniature pinscher, it is a german bred dog created from the smooth coat Dachshund and the Italian Greyhound. It is in no way related to the German Pinscher which was not a recognized breed until the late 1800's. The Miniature Pinscher was around in the late 1600's. Documentation to support the breeds creation was discovered in the writings or Dr. Reichenbach in 1836. The German Pinscher is actually a smooth coated Schnauzer. The MT has a longer more wedged shape head. They come in both the Toy and Standard sizes where the Miniature Pinscher comes (by standard) in a Minature Pinscher only has one size. The cropping of the ears in the Pin are do to its history of having them chewed partially off by rats and mice. Farmers started cropping the ears to protect them. Farmers also docked tails as these were farm dogs. These breeds are not related and outside of the coloring and general marking to a Miniature Pinscher person, they do not resemble each other. The Miniature Pinscher though can have thumb prints, or black stripes on the feet it very seldom does and is considered a fault. In the MT this is standard and nearly all will have them. In addition, the Minitaure Pinscher colors are more varied from every variation offered in the Italian Greyhound to that in Dachshund. Black & Tan, Black & Rust. Red, Stag Red, Clear Red, Blue (diluted black) Chocolate & Tan or Rust, Fawn (diluted chocolate) and occasionally the harlequin (white with black) and merle (black & grey) referred to in the Dachshund as dapple color.
