Also, if your pet is "fixed" this can sometimes contribute to it being overweight (nothing a good 45min walk a day won't help!)
Is he getting enough exercise? If he is getting anything less then a 30 min. walk a day he isn't.
Want to know a cool trick to tell if your pooch is "poochy"? Have your dog sit, then run your hand down his sides by his lower rib cage tummy area. If you can feel his lower ribs he's fit n trim..if you can only feel "love handles" lol.rover may need to go on a doggie diet.
You need to keep in mind too.all dogs, even within a breed are individuals. Take for instance a German Shepherd. I have a BIG male shep (larger then the breed standard) but many sheps are also smaller then the breed standard. Neither makes either dog less of a German Shepherd...it just means it does not conform to the "ideal" of the breed (few dogs do actually.otherwise winning best in show at westminister dog show wouldn't be that big of a deal!) lol.
My Boston is fairly skinny with extra skin even. Most of the ones I see are more on the broad side. They are fairly wide chested and sort of boxy. Maybe he just needs some exercise.
