Whats wring with my dog My corgi mix cant run or jump
Sadly I feel way too many people just asume at 7 years old that a dog is a senior and joint problems are normal so don't bother with finding out what is wrong and just treat the pain, figuring it is a waste of money to do other wise, and to me that is robbing the dog of a good quality life and there are ways to treat without high expense.
I have a 10 year eskie who is playment to my 1 year old pup and still has the energy and physical conditioning to keep up and I have a 9 1/2 greyhound who still runs after rabbits and will chase the one year old around despite having fractured his hock and having suffered back injuries, my former girl at that age, loved to sprint at high speed against other greys a 1/4 of her age, jump over the pond and other dogs , other than the grey face she still acted like a youngster. So please don't accept all the other opinions that your dog is just old, old age is a very gradual process of slowing , and yours has the symptoms of a back injury
A few years back my greyhound had fell while running and the vet really could not pin down where my greyhound was hurting, so he decides to put him on antiflammatories, the dog improved pain wise but still was not running or getting up on the couch so I knew there still something wrong and this continued for a couple months.
When I was attending a dog show there was an animal chiropractor there so I talked to him and arranged to have Sunny looked at, the chiro had me walk the dog around while some else video taped (this chiro also is often on the Dogs in Canada TV show, so maybe the reason he video tapes or he uses the videos to check progess if the dog needs ongoing treatments, but not sure) any way then he did physical observation looking at the balance of muscle from on side of the body to another to see if they are symetrical and he noted that the large muscle on the left side hip was lower which indicated that the dog was compensating and not using that leg fully, then he did a full manual check of spine and legs feeling for the position of each bone and found 2 area of the spine where the discs had twisted which was pinching on nerves and the leg he was compensating on was slightly twisted at the knee, so he made the adjustments to those areas, most of the rest of the day after we left the dog just slept, the next the dog got onto the couch for the first time in over 2 months and the day after, spotted a squirrel and instead of ignoring like he had been took off to chase it, Sunny only need the one treatment and has remained in excellent shape 6 years after treatment, had I pursued through the vet would have needed to do x-rays, myelogram(quite expensive but it would show nerve pinching) and than surgery would be needed to correct So I would have been looking at several thousand $ for what the chiro did for around a hundred since it included a full exam if I had to go for additional visits would have been less.
