Whats wrong with my six month old Shih Tzu Tail2007-11-25 2:53:59

He's a beautiful Shih Tzu, but his tail doesn't come up and over his back. It comes down and over to the side. Sometimes the tip or end will come up. Has any one seen this before and is their something worng with it? Can It be fixed? I love him anyway. But this is one of the thing's I loved about the Shih tzu was the beautiful tail. Would appreicate any advice or help!

I have a precious little girl with champions in her lineage and her tail is "a fault" (doesn't do what its supposed to do as described by standards) but it doesn't hurt her in any way and nothing wrong with it, perse & I could care less. she displays all the other shih tzu qualities, looks and traits and is such a doll. His tail probably wont get better in time, dont know if its always been that way or was an injury. dont know in my case either, since she was near a yr, when we got her.

Its one of the things I love about the breed also, but I love her so much, I've come to love it. Its unique and she's a tailwagger to be sure! just enjoy the love and laughter he brings u; maybe a playmate for him someday will bring that tail u miss... & bythen maybe u wont miss it! ;)

well most likely there is nothing wrong, but scrach him at the base of his tail and if id doen't come up then it is just that way, nothing wrong but you couldn't show him.

Dogs are more than the tail! Thats the first thing that should be noted. Shih Tzu's have amazing qualities and you should look beyond his not so perfect tail. It may have been a result of how the puppies where situated in the womb, somethimes it just forms that way. I dont think you can do anything about it. Ask a vet, maybe there's doggy cosmetic surgery that you can try. However it would be a surgery and you would be risking you dogs life for something thats really not that big of a deal.

Does the tail wag? If so, sound like you got a great dog!

My mother's Shih Tzu has a small tail that stays flat as well. Its just the way he will be, a trait of the mother or father didn't come out the same somewhere. But nothing is wrong with it whatsoever.
