Whats wrong with our Akita2007-11-25 2:54:00

Our 120lbs. Akita is shedding his "top coat" right now. This happens like clockwork every spring, but this year he has been acting strange. He has not been eating or drinking as much, though he is still doing both every day. He has developed a rash on his underbelly and has been licking and licking. He also has not been going to the bathroom as much. He only went pee once in a 18 hour time span yesterday. He seems in good spirits, but I am a little concerned. I'm wondering if the change in his skin oils (due to the Top Coat falling out) have had some sort of part in all of this???

See your vet; this is not normal.

Is he on a quality food? (not a grocery store brand)

Could be he has developed an allergy to grass, fleas, even his current food (has that changed?) He's going to end up licking himself raw and making matters worse. He's obviously miserable.

it could really be any number of things. you need to have a vet look at it closely and they may even want to scrape some skin off the area and a different area also to find out what might be wrong. its just really hard to tell by a description. it could be food allergies or just plain allergies anything really. you can buy anti itch cream for dogs at the petstore to help but it should see a vet.

Shedding has nothing to do with what your describing. If he only peed once in 18 hours then he needs a vet very quickly. Your dog is sick. There is something very wrong.
