Black Lab! They are very smart, and depending on the age..calm and sweet. They are also very very protective. I have one that is about 2 years old she is so loving,smart and protective. She is also great around kids. But they can get a little big if you are just looking for a small one.

Chihuahuas because they are small, cute, cuddly, very loving and sweet, the ultimate lap dog. Easy to care for, cost less to feed, maintain, etc. Not much grooming involved, less poop to clean up. I love everything about a chihuahua, well except for the barking. For the ones that say they are rats or just nasty little ankle biters, then you have just not been around good chihuahuas like my dogs.

Huskies

I know all dog stem from the wolf somewhere in their pedigree, but the Husky looks most like the wolf than any other breed. Plus they love the winter months and well, I love winter too! Skiing, snowmoling, now dogsledding and skijoring with my husky.

boxers are great because they look scary (protect you) yet are not vicious at all! they sweetest family dogs and love kids. They have great personalities

golden retrievers, smart, gentle, beautiful, athletic. they can be taught to do anything, they're the least likely breed to bite, according to insurance statistics. little kids can do ANYTHING to a golden and the dog will never bite.

All dogs are wonderful, but of course I love the two that I have. My Irish Wolfhound/Lab rescue, sweetest dog on the planet and her little sister a Shetland Sheepdog. I've always had Shelties, they are very smart good family dogs and very devoted. The two of them get along so beautifully. My cats love them too;^)

English Cocker Spaniels...I have a 2 year old and she's gorgeous. Great with kids, playful without being hyper, friendly without being over-boisterous. Not to mention absolutely adorable!
