Dalmatians have a beautiful glossy white coat with black or dark brown (liver) spots. The pattern is unique to each individual dog and photos of them are better identification than their own tattoo !

They have short coats with no undercoat. They shed short hairs instead of fluffy balls of hair. Forget dark clothes ! Ears and tail are left natural, but the front dewclaws are usually trimmed off as a 5 day old puppy.

Dalmatians are intelligent and strongly desire to please their owners.

Dalmatians are highly trainable, and compete in many performance events..

Obedience ( 3 or 4 titles),

tracking (2 titles),

agility (lots of titles!),

rally(several titles),

fly ball,

road trials with horses (12 & 24 mile trials),

versatility title,

road distance program (4 levels, no pressure).

Of course, Dals compete in course conformation or 'breed' classes where the dogs are judged against the breed Standard, and in Junior Showmanship, where their young owners are judged as they gait, stack and show their Dal to the judge.

Just recently in the Dalmatian magazine, a 12 year old Dalmatian earned her 22 nd title !!! The celebration was for her age and her retirement, not necessarily the number of her titles..

....other Dalmatians have 15 to 91 Performance Titles!!! So, whatever you like, competitive or fun, go for it !

Several Dalmatians currently work in search and rescue, cadaver search, as Service Dogs for the disabled, and Therapy Dogs in hospitals and nursing homes.
