Liver brown-spotted Dalmatians are less common than black spotted Dalmatians, as recessive genes cause the liver color. Liver spotted Dalmatians are not more rare, more valuable, nor more expensive, but they frequently attract lots of attention.

Any other color of spots (for instance black & tan on the same dog or lemon to gold spots) are disqualified from conformation. A patch, a large area of solid color, are a disqualification. Breeders prefer not to breed blue eyes as this has been linked to the inherited deaf gene which affects many breeds. Blue eyes are not a disqualification.

A new buyer must become familiar with Dalmatians as unknowledgeable back yard breeders or commercial breeders may actually try to convince a novice buyer that the lemon spots or the patch is rare and more expensive ! when it is just the opposite !
