When a greyhound is in season how long does it normally last and do all bitches vary in bloodloss
my newly acquired greyhound cross is in season, how long should this season last generally and do all bitches bleed heavily or does it vary.
Answers:Same as any other breed, she will be in season for approx. 3 weeks, the first week her discharge will be bright red, fading in the second week in colour & amount, (this is when she is at ther most receptive to males) 3rd week she will still lose a little. Not only does the amount vary from b1tch to b1tch, it varies from season to season. Some dogs are very scrupulous about keeping themselves clean, so it's difficult to tell the amount they are actually losing.
Count her season from the first day you see blood & to be on the safe side keep her completely away from male dogs for 28 days.
It last about 5 weeks, comes every 6 month cycle. If you are not planning on breeding her, after the cycle I would spay her. It is depend on the ***** how much she bleeds, etc. There are many benefits to why you should spay her.
THE B IT CH.
路PROESTRUS 8-13 Days
The b it ch may urinate more frequently; she will not tolerate other bitches. She will have a bloody vaginal discharge and her vulva will be swollen. She will be attractive to the male but will not accept mating.
路OESTRUS 4-7 Days
The bloody discharge becomes clearer and straw like in colour and her vulva softens.
She will hold her tail to one side 鈥楲ordosis鈥?and will accept mating.
