Hi my name is Lisa I own and breed German Shepherds. This is not right how old is the dog were it parents OFA certified. If I were you I would bring the dog to the vet and have them do hip and elbow X rays. There are a lot of not so great breeders out ther that want to turn a quick buck by selling there back yard breeder pups and this is expecilly a problem with this breed. With out knowing the liniage or genitic problems inherent with each breeding there is no way to know weather the pups will be happy and healthy both phycaly and mentaly. I would also call the breeder to see if there are ther pups from the litter with this problem. When you bought the pup did it come with a contract, heath and hip guarentee. I hope all is well with your pup but please get this checked out sooner rather than later. You may have a pup with special needs it is better to know and to be able to prevent more damage.

I don't know when it begins, i think it depends on the dog and environment, but you should have a vet check it right away. Our german shepherd's hips were so bad by the time she was seven no medication would help her and we ended up putting her down because she was so unhappy. It was really sad and I don't want that to happen to you too, so please please please take him to a vet right away.
