Then suppose you let your dog have a litter of five puppies.

There are now 20 puppies in the community who need good homes...but still only 10 good homes are available for all the puppies and kittens being born in your community, you can't find a good home for every one.

25-50% of those dogs that you do find homes for will still end up in shelters and being euthanized because people will abandon, neglect, abuse or lose them.

Do some more research, every smart person will tell you, DO NOT breed your dog. UNLESS you are doing it to further advance the breed, according the the Breed Standard... (ie. if you're a professional dog breeder that shows their dogs)

She is ready to breed after she has finished her AKC championship in the conformation ring, and is at least 2 years old. The show ring is the proving ground for breeding quality, so a dog that does not finish is not of a quality to be bred.

HERE ARE SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE DECIDING TO BREED YOUR DOG:

Have they completed their AKC championships in the ring, thereby proving their quality as breeding stock?

Have you studied their pedigrees to determine possible genetic defects going back decades?

Have you evaluated male and female against the written breed standard to determine why their particular offspring would make a viable contribution to the breed?

Have you done the requisite health tests?

Are you willing to have their eyes and hips certified?
