I have a 8 year old pekingese girl who's been mated for a year now. She's usually really mean and growls a lot, but now she's been nuzzling every human in the house. She can usually climb up the couch, but now she cannot. She's begging for food a lot more now, when she used to be so skinny and a picky food eater. Is she pregnant and what are the other signs?

umm.. mated for a year? what do you mean?

dogs come into heat once every six months - do you mean she has been mated 2 or three times?

If you are asking this, you shouldnt be breeding her. there are a lot of things that regularly go wrong in pregnancy - obviously, you dont know enough about these things to recognise them and treat them appropriately.

what are you going to do if a pup is dead and stuck inside the mother? what are you going to do if a pup is breached?

do you know how to keep the pups alive (rubbing and suctioning etc) after they are born? do you have the mother already on a puppy food diet?

take her to a vet for a checkup and then get her spayed.

A dog that age bred for the first time I don't understand. With that said it does sound like she could be pregnant. I hope you have had her on extra supplements. Puppies will deplete her calcium. You need to get her to your vet ASAP for a check up.
