When does a puppy become an adult dog
Is there a set number of months when a puppy becomes an adult dog? I am trying to figure out when i should lessen the amount of food to give to my dog...she is 14 months old. Thanks.
Answers:Depending on what breed of dog you have I would be cutting back her food now, especially if she is still on puppy food, swap to adult, most dogs have finished growing by this stage unless its a Giant breed. A good guide is to feel the rib cage, you should be able to just feel them when slightly pushing, if you push and can't feel rib cage your dog is overweight, if you can feel or see the rib cage really easily then I would keep feeding her as normal and even adding a little extra.
As for maturity I wouldn't class a dog as an adult until they are 18months-2yrs, some breeds older.

Ehh, do you mean when they reach full ability to be able to breed, and live without a mother, or a responsible figure? About a year, full maturity? It can take up to 3 years for Boxers. Usually only 2 years to reach complete mental growth.

I feed the amount that keeps my dog in perfect weight. I don't go by what the bag says. I look at my dogs and keep them in good weight, not fat or thin.
