When does the pain of losing a beloved family dog go away
I lost my Jack Russell terrier "Scruffy" on Sept 14, 2006 on my first day of radiotion treatment for my testicular cancer I had last summer. He got run over by a "hit and run" driver while I was in a city 40 miles from where I live. So by the time I got home it was too late to save him.He was gone. I took it rather hard
I've got another JRT for Christmas last year , I named her "precious" but she's still not the same personality of Scruffy. On the bright side we've bonded and are very close just I was with Scruffy. I hope to breed her one day and hope one of her puppies looks like Scruffy . If I get one of her puppies that looks scruffy I've gonna keep him with Precious.
But lately at either at work or at home, I start to cry for no reason whatever . I think in my heart I still miss him even though he's buried outside at my family's home. Sometimes I think that maybe Precious and I need to move to another house/area where his memories are'nt around me all the time.
Answers:I'm sorry to hear about your Scruffy. You might need to talk to a counselor. It sounds like you may be extra sensitive due to your health situation.
In about 1 or 2 days.
Time heals...but you'll always have a special place.
I had to put my rottie girl down in 2003, and it still saddens my heart.
It will never fully go away, if you really loved it. You just learn to live with it, and by and by, it will become less noticible. The pain is a reminder, but it's ok to still be sad about it years and years afterwards. It will never fully go away, just sort of shrink in size.
just go day by day & wait to see. maybe prescious will suprise you & you'll just be able to think. everything happens for a reason
I lost my baby dog in 2000, in a hit and run, and it took a few years before I could remember with love and fondness and not just saddness.
Awww, that is so touching... its been a while for you... it just takes time. I know how you feel. I dont really know what to say but that it only takes time.
It may take a while but sooner or later you forget about it and move on and maybe just maybe you will feel good enough to get a new dog. I went through the same thing about a year ago and I finally felt good enough to get a new dog about 5 months ago.
Never. It will diminish with time, but will never go completely away. By the way, my heart aches for you. First day of radiation treatment for cancer and losing your beloved dog on the same day is a double whammy. My thoughts are with you.
if you get a puppy that looks like scruffy you will want it to act just like scruffy and it will not because in will not be that dog. just rember the good times you had with the dog.
It can take a long time. A pet - especially a dog or a cat - IS a member of your family. Grieving is normal. Unending grief is not. Before you do something as expensive as uproot yourself and move, have you considered therapy? A good therapist can probably help you come to terms with the death of Scruffy and help you find a way to move on while always remembering him. We just love our pets so much, don't we. I'm sorry for your loss and sorry that you're having a hard time dealing with your grief. Good help is available to you, I encourage you to find it - and soon - so that you can have a restored sense of peace.
