When does the pain of losing a beloved family dog go away
That was 10 years ago or so and I still don't like to think of her passing.
I have 2 new dogs now and I'm happier than ever. I love them so much it makes the pain of losing a dog, almost disappear.
It takes awhile to get over the pain but the memories and love you shared will always remain. It will one day be a good memory instead of a sad one.
Good luck with the puppy idea! It may just happen! You never know!
It's hard. I understand. We had to put my beloved boxer, Snoball, of 8 years down in Jan. It was the hardest thing I have ever been through. She had a tumor and we decided so she wouldn't be in pain, we'd put her down. I was in the room with her, and my god... I wasn't prepared for something like that. We cremated her and she's in our living room. We joked about all the funny things she did but it was hard. She was like a sister to me, and suddenly like that... the house was empty. Now, we occasional will forget she is gone and mean to give the food to her... then realizing she isn't there. We cope and we talk. We cry when we need to.
I think the difference between you and me is that I was there for my dog's death, and you weren't. I think you have yet to forgive yourself, and to grieve truely over the fact that scruffy is gone. Think of all the wonderful times, and come to recognize that Precious isn't Scruffy and will never be your Scruffy. Instead, embrace Precious as a whole new dog. Don't judge on personality traits of Scruffy, because Scruffy has passed. You won't move on until you accept. In your heart, just love the times you had. Maybe spend some time talking to the grave and just console over the fact that you did everything you could do during that time. And probably gave Scruffy a wonderful life. Don't move, you'll regret moving away and running from the very thing you miss.
Lost my guy of 13 years last Sept first... no the pain never leaves...but it does lessen a bit. I still sit and find myself thinking of him..and crying.. I have his urn on a shelf in the bedroom.. with his collar and his picture. Don't worry about what some people say.. they can be insensative. Take all the time you need...do what you feel you must. As long as you remember him... he never will truely ever leave.
