How did he stay out for that long. Id be way worried if my dog was just gone for an hour?

hey take him to the vet he might have something broken. Or he might be really terrified for some reason try comforting him and try giving him a treat, treat him like a puppy. I would know my aunt breeds dogs and I own a dog. I really hope it helps and that he feels better.

You need to keep your dog on leash when you take him out. How could you let a dog out like that? This world is not and has not been designed for the safety of dogs and it is the height of irresponsibility to let your dog out by himself. He will get hit by a car, or worse. Leash your dog and be responsible.

And please take him to the vet. It's clear from your post that he's in pain and needs an exam to determine what's wrong.

yes its gotta be the vets he may have servire neck injuries..ie.broken or ripped tendens...you dunno what he got upto or into over night while roaming....VETS IS NOT EVEN A CHOICE GET HIM THERE A.S.A.P

take him to a vet super fast. since he rans away from home, he might had gotten hit by something or ran into something. he might have an infection. since yorkshire have no much hair, it is hard to see they skin.
