some people say when they reach a year, they are adults, others say 1 year and a half are still puppies. and other people think 2 years is an adult. when are puppies adults?

Answers:

most bigger breeds mature physically at about 9 to 12 months. they will mature mentally at around 1 1/2 year. for smaller breeds, they mature physically at about 1 to 1 1/2, mentally around 2 years. but some dogs stay puppy mentally forever. =)

however, this varies greatly among dogs, and should be a guideline.

Usually when they're full grown which is around 10-12 months but it can take up to 2 years for larger breeds. Although a lot of breeders say wait until the dogs 2 so it varies.

It depends on the breed. Some smaller breeds are considered adults at age 1 or even less. Larger breeds take longer to reach physical maturity. Many large breeds aren't considered to be adults until about 18 months. So, you have a little chihuahua or Westie, probably physcially an adult by 7 or 8 months. Technically it's 12 months (same as baby) but many dogs remain "puppies" in fact for far longer. My older one still behaves like a puppy but she's 2 and a half!

As other have said, it depends on the breed. Giant breeds, like Great Danes, are not completely mature until they are 3 years old. That's a long puppyhood!

i have a dog (briard Cross lab) who is 4 and is still mentally a puppy so a suppose that it depends on the dog

whenever they hit puberity (first time in heat for female, first time trying to mate with a female in heat for male). that's how you know it's physically mature, and most dogs are as mentally mature as they're going to get by then.
