When is it safe to switch my puppys food
TYou can gradually switch the food by mixing the ratios. A small bit at a time.
At one year of age they are pretty much done with their growth of bone and muscle and no longer need the extra protein and nutrients of puppy food. So around one year switch to adult. You can however switch to other puppy food anytime as long as you do it gradually. 1/2 of each kind and then more and more of the new.
I don't think that's true... Eukanuba is suppose to be a really good brand however you should be able to switch to any other brand as long as it's still for puppies ~ most food packages say up to what age to continue feeding that particular food. You could always just call a vets office too and ask their opinion......
if you are staying with dry start by mixing 25%new kind with 75% old in crease the % of new every week or so. week 2 50% 50% and so on. generaly it is just a question of getting use to the new food. generaly when you go from poor to good or good to poor quality you tend to have more problems. Eukanuba is consider by many to be a high quality food, so if you are changeing to an other high quality food the tranistion should be smooth
That's not true.. Switch them over slowly, say starting with 25% new/ 75%old, and switch from one to the other..
It would be far worse to keep your puppy on Eukanuba for a whole year, than it would to have a little bit of diarrhea for a few days til you get changed to a better food... Eukanuba isn't any good... A good food for the first year is a better idea.. I would start today!
No, of course not!You can change your puppy's food anytime at any age.But you will have to do it gradually. You can mix 1/4 of the new food into your pooch's diet then go on to 1/2 then 3/4 then totally changed. This will take a few weeks, so do not rush the process. You also mentioned your dog had skin problems,so I am suggesting home cooked food.
You can switch the food at any time, and good for you for wanting to switch to a better food for your pup and being so observant to her needs!
I have a 12wk chocolate lab, breeder had her on IAMS puppy (blech) We switched to Canidae ALS, I dont know if you already have a food in mind, but if not-I highly suggest that one. ALS is All Life Stages- so you can feed this food their whole lives if you wish.
Start the switch gradual...more Eukanuba than new food, then gradually progress to 50/50 then slightly more new food than Eukanuba..etc. A 7 day switch over period should be sufficient.
Have fun with your pup!! :-)
