When is it time to put my dog down
It sounds like you've made your decision already, you just need some support to do it. We're here for you.
P.S. NEVER EVER give your dog Immodium, it is too high in sodium and with as sick as she already is, it does have the potential to shut down her heart. The best medicine to give a dog with diarhea is Kaopectate. The vet recommended it to us, and it seems to be pretty effective. However, it may interact with some of her medication, so always ask your vet first.
To me when your dog no longer has a quilty of life than that is when you need to put herdown. Only you know what her quilty of life is at this pointe. Does she still act normal. This would be a tough call for me.. Good luck !!! You God bless you !!!
I would say it is time, you have done a great job, in rescueing and loving the dog and really taking care of her. I had to put my dog dog and you know you always think back and wonder ifyou could have given her a little bit more time, but that is nto being fair to yourself or the dog.
Wow, this is heart breaking! I feel for you and your dog. You need to look at the quality of life for your dog. If you and your vet feel the dog is suffering more than not, it may be time to put them down.
Another alternative, is to talk with a German Shepherd rescue. They may have some experience in this situation and may have some ideas for you. Also, a 2nd or 3rd opinion from another vet or two on possible solutions to the health issues? I would research more on the web about this particular disease/illness in your dog and see if you can try some other treatments. It couldn't hurt.
I know just how you feel, our sweet cocker spaniel of the past 14 years was just put down less than 2 weeks ago. It hurt just thinking of having her put down and it still hurts coming home and not finding her here! You already know what the answer is, just like I knew when her pain went from medication to falling on stairs, sleeping all day then just after we let her out side, she'd walk through the house with poo following without even realizing it. You know it is time, do what is best for all concerned, make the arrangements and have it done so you can recover and focus on that new baby. We had our dog cremated and will plant a tree in the fall with her ashes. Good Luck!
i feel like we're in the same boat. my dog had severe skin cancer. she has lost almost all her hair and the skin on half of her body is not so, let us say, normal people would probably throw up when they see it... i love her deeply and just can't seem to find it in my heart to put her into permanent sleep. i thought about it (even prayed so hard) for a few weeks and then i realized, i've been selfish, i was thingking of my own feelings (of how it would hurt not to see her anymore) & i did'nt see how much she is suffering due to a disease that just keeps getting worse everyday. that's when i decided to put her to sleep. if you see your dog is suffering more & more each day, i suggest euthanasia. there's no use to prolonging her pain unless there's a 100% chance for a cure/recovery.
If anyone has seen my Q&A, you can see that I have suggested to many pet owners the site: www.rainbowbridge.com. I think that it is time for you to let your doggy go. No offense, but from what I read in your question, your poor dog is suffering... I hope she's OK and comfortable. This will be hard and I know that you'll miss her a lot. OK, maybe not a lot... A TON, but she's going to a better place. I sound like one of those psychiatrists, but I just want to help. rainbowbridge.com lets you write a memorial to your pet if you want to share your pain of a departed loved one. You can put her name and picture on there. The site is kind and heartwarming. The best of luck to you and your doggy. I hope she has a peaceful going... =(
