When should I expect puppies My dog is lactating already2007-11-25 2:54:51

Many years ago I had a rescue dog that had been lactating for two weeks, only to find out she had a fatal condition called pyometra, which is an infection of the uterus, common in unspayed females. It gave her the symptoms of a false pregnancy.

I would take her to the vet, and have her take x-rays to make sure she is indeed pregnant.

usual gestation is 9 weeks so if she is over that i would take her back to the vet she may need a c section. is she pregnant for sure? not a phantom pregnancy? don't let her go too far over due if its roughly 9 weeks and no puppies take her back to the vet asap

When our dog had milk it was about a week or two till she had them. Every dog is different. She should do as above though and begin to "nest". She needs to have a space of her own and it will most likely happen at night when it is quiet. She will paint alot too, just like a woman in labor. If she doesn't go soon though you will need to call the vet. The first puppy could be stuck and that will cause problems for the other pups and your dog. Good luck!!
