When should i get my dog spayed2007-11-25 2:54:51

I was hoping to get my male Chihuahua done at 5 months, but my vet suggested I wait until he's 6 months because he's still only 3lb.

Your vet will be the best one to give advice for sure.

It's either okay now, or at six months. Please call our vet to find out for sure. It will be a lot easier on you and your pup when she is spayed. Her "hormones" won't be overly active when she would be in heat. Take care. By the way, that is being very responsible to get her spayed at such a young age. That, food water and TLC do a lot for our pets.

Take her in now, she will go into her first heat in 2 months, and i know the first time my dogs came into heat, i wasnt really expecting it, and i was so worried a male dog had got at her before i knew. Do it now, before you run that risk.

I would do it as soon as possible. You don't want to wait too long. The younger they are, the easier it is on them. I had my poodle fixed at 4 months and he doesn't know the difference.

I would say that once they are a year old they can then be spayed. Since your dog is so young. But I would also ask a vet for their opinion. Usually you can call a vet and ask a question without having to pay for it.

What breed and size is your dog ?
