When should i start feeding my 11 month old rottweiler and German shepherd adult food2007-11-25 2:54:05

I have two 11 month old dogs, a Rottweiler and a German Shepherd. I'm still feeding dry puppy food. Is it time to switch to adult food and are there any dangers in feeding puppy food too long?

At 12 months of age you switch to adult food. If you wait longer, the puppy food is too rich and can lead to obesity because they are pretty much done growing and don't need the extra stuff any more.

Itis good practice to keep feeding him pup food to at least a year.

ther are alotof nutrent levels that have to be kept up for him to grow correctally.

most dogs can be switched over at one year. I would stay with dry food for most of his life, as te dog matures or goes through different stages in it's life switch to the appropriate food

my vet said to start the transition at abt 1 yr old. when u 1st start them on adult food, u need to mix it-----mostly puppy food with a little adult food mixed in. then add a little more adult(less puppy food) then eventually swith to straight adult food.

1st week:

75% puppy 25%adult

2nd week:

50%puppy 50%adult

3rd week:

25%puppy 75%adult

4th week:

0%puppy 100%adult
