When will my dog come into season2007-11-25 2:54:07

I have a 10 month old Staffordshire Bull Terrier. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me roughly when she will first come into season? My partner thinks it could be soon as she looks a little (but noy overly) puffy and swollen around her 'ladybits' and normally she loves having her belly tickled but when he tried to tickle her tummy earlier she growled at him and rolled over. Thanks.

I don't know about your breed specifically but most breeds need to be watched from the time they are 6 months old and usually come in heat around 9 months old. Some come in later and some don't come in their first heat until they are 2 years old.

I have raised Poodles, Cockers and now Yorkies. Yes, their little twats swell like balloons when they come in heat but it doesn't happen in one day. Also their nipples swell and they do not go back down to the orignal size after she comes out of heat. They do go down tho.

Look for a change in her personality, that sometimes happens. Just before 2 of my girls come in heat they get extremely playful with the boys.

If you are going to have her fixed you need to talk to your vet. Some vets like to wait until after the first heat but others like to do it before the first heat.

Hopefully she will not come into heat and you will get her to the vet to get her spayed.

She should have been spayed months ago.

Spaying her while she is in heat will cost you more money.
