Why a female? Males make great companions; some would even argue that male dogs are easier to have around than females.

My suggestion is to not look for a puppy until you decide for sure that everyone in the family wants one. Part of being a responsible pet owner is the willingness to wait until all details are in line before getting one.

Dogs are expensive. The least expensive part about getting a dog is the initial cost (no matter what you pay). If your mom doesn't want to pay for a dog, then you maybe should wait until you can afford to have a dog of your own. What will you do when the puppy gets sick or needs its annual check-up? Will your mom pay then? Poodles (or non-shedding breeds, in general) will need regular grooming. Who will pay for that?

I think it's great that you want to be a dog owner, but maybe now is not the right time. Use this time now to become informed, so that when the time is right, you will be ready for anything that comes your way!

There is really no such thing as a 'cheap' puppy. All dogs need good food and vet care. You are not willing to pay for one from a reputable breeder who has done the health testing and stands behind their puppy so you spend very little for a so called 'cheap' one from someone who doesn't give a rats behind and you end up paying a lot more for the cheap one in many cases because of health issues.
