You go to the vet to have it done that way the dog's ears don't get infected. I personally think that it's very cruel to do that to dogs, same as having their tails docked. Why do it, their born with tails. I understand that with some breeds of dogs you have to get their ears clipped because if the hang down the dog can get ear infections and then go deaf. So in a case like that I wouldn't like to do it but I would to keep my dog healthy.
