Where do I send samples for DNA testing for my dogs I am not sure if they are blood & genetic re2007-11-25 2:54:24

I was given a pair of puppies by 2 different neighbours along my street. I am worried if the puppies were from the same father. If I bred them, would I be risking of mating same genetic material like brother + sister and produce bad genes, weak or genetic disordered puppies?

Just spay and neuter them. You are not thinking this through clearly and need to do MUCH more research on the subject. Your dogs are not breeding quality. It's obvious by the way you obtained them. They have nothing to offer the gene pool and will only add to the over population of pets. Why does everyone seem to think they need to breed? Youdon't have a clue how genetics work or you would not have had to ask this question which means you should not be breeding. Sorry!

I agree, please have them fixed. If you want puppies, go down to the animal shelter and adopt a stack, there are more than enough who have been abandoned. If you insist on the breeding and want to know, ask your veterinarian about blood typing the dogs to see if they're related.

Well what do your registration papers say.. They'll tell you if the two puppies were sired by the same male.

VetGen does DNA Parentage testing on dogs.. You could contact them.. Gonna cost a few... You'll need kits for each of the pups, and each of the parents in question, at $60 per swab kit..
