Where should I buy a puppy
i was thinking about getting a puppy from the internet but is it safe and what website should i get it from?!?! oh and i want a really small chihuahua "teacup"
Answers:As a reputable breeder of Miniature Pinschers, I both agree with some of the things that have been said, and disagree with some.
Pet stores?? No Way!!! At a pet store you are unable to see both parents, you cant talk to the breeder to find out under what conditions the puppies were raised. Many times these dogs do come from puppy mills and I believe we are all under the agreement that puppy mills should not ever be supported.
Okay, that takes us to rescues, shelters, or pound. Very small dogs are rarely in the shelters. They are typically the first to be adopted. Rescues are a WONDERFUL place to get a dog, you can save a dog that has had something unfortunate in its life.
I'm under the impression that you are not looking for a dog to breed. Being that you dont already have a chihuahua, and dont know where to get one, you probably are not up to par on their standards. Dont breed your dog/puppy!! Leave it to those that are devoting endless hours to BETTER their breed.
Now, on to buying a puppy from a breeder. If you cant find a rescue in your area then definately choose a good breeder. Now this doesnt mean the first person you see with sweet littly chihuahua pups, that melt your heart. Just because they look good, refrain yourself. Turn into a detective. Talk to the breeder, get personal, ask TONS of questions. Get answers to all of your questions, if they beat around the bush, choose another breeder. A good breeder will be asking questions from YOU. Get a guarantee, talk to people that have gotten puppies from this breeder before, talk to the breeders vet. Find out how often they bring their own dogs in for treatment / preventatives. Be ready to offer your own references and vet information. Look at both of the puppies parents. Where do the parents live? They should be in the house. How many dogs do they have? How many breeds do they breed? A good breeder should only have a few dogs, and should specialize in only 1 or two breeds.
