try looking at petfinder or sites where you can dogs from an animal shelter and save a life. if you cant, then you can go to the akc to buy one.
What breed do you want? there are alot of breed specific rescues that are nationwide and consist of a cluster of foster homes. Some are even willing to transport, and since they are a nonprofit, they are more dedicated to ensuring your puppy is healthy instead of just trying to make a sale. I would try googling "__fill in breed here__ rescues" This will ensure you get a healthy puppy, don't get scammed, and aren't buying from an inhumane puppymill.
