Where should our outside dog have her puppies

Where should our outside dog have her puppies2007-11-25 2:55:04

Ok, so our dog is pregnant, about 6 weeks, and she is an outside dog. Our neighbor insists that we should let her inside for the next 3 months or so, until the puppies are weaned. But she has always been an outside dog, only coming inside once or twice a month, and not for a long time when she does come inside. She is a big dog, a Rottweiler (sp?), and we dont want her inside bc of her size, but should she be inside to have the puppies?

Ps~Where we live, this time of year is not cold outside, in fact it's been around 85 degrees the last week or so

Pps~Pls dont answer with crap about how we need to have her fixed; we are planning on doing that after the puppies come -we've been told to wait about 3 months after

Do you have a garage, or storage shed? She may get a better sense of security in an indoor area to have the puppies, but I know sometimes outdoor dogs that suddenly become indoor dogs get a little confused about the rules. Do you live in an area with wildlife? Hawks, and coyotes have been notorious for making meals out of puppies too so that is a reason to whelp the puppies indoors. Also the puppies are vulnerable to disease outdoors by passing neighborhood cats or birds using the restroom in the water dish. Not to long ago I had a stray have puppies at my home, I brought her into my house and she kept moving the puppies everywhere she was so nervous.

Outside?
i woudl say let her in a build a small pen, or you can buy them for enough room for her to walk around a for her puppies to walk without getting lost, ntohign real big but big enough for her to have some room with the pups, or at leats build her some sort of covered shelter outside, she needs to protect her puppies and dogs are den animals they live in dens in the wild so think that way when you are making or buying a shelter for her . . .they have those igloo lookign dog houses if you get a big one it might work, i woudl ask a breeder or some vet, nto jsut any random person at a pet store they dont know crap
I would give her a big dog house with a few blankets to welp in. It needs to be big enought for her and up to a dozen puppies. A shed would work to. Make sure to give her some nice warm blankets, even thought it's warm the pups will need the extra warmth. Most vets will spay as soon as the pups are weened. Good luck!
outside
I would consider bringing her inside until the puppies are weaned. It's not safe for newborn puppies to be outside. There are to many diseases.
i THiNK you should bring her inside. its safer that way you can keep a eye on her and call the vet if you have to.And even though its 80 degrees outside the puppies are so small they will be cold. Also bringing her inside theres less chances of infection, because i hope its cleaner than out side!
